Today’s scripture…
“A few days later this younger son packed all his belongings and moved to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money in wild living. (Luke 15:13 NLT)
Devotional thought…
Today’s scripture comes from the story of the prodigal son. The story begins describing a son who was so focused on his own happiness, he was willing to ask for his inheritance before his father was even dead. He took his inheritance, left his father, and spent his next days trying to find an existence of self fulfillment and pleasure. It didn’t take long for this son to run out of money and start thinking about where he came from.
The story of the prodigal is the story of creation. In the beginning, God created it all from nothing and part of that creation was the daughters and sons of humanity. Whether a few steps or to the far country, each son and daughter has rebelled from the Father and looked to find their own way.
There are two kinds of people… Those who are intent on figuring out life apart from God, and those who make their way back home to the Heavenly Father. Don’t be fooled by your proximity to church and people who know God, for their are many whose bodies are close but whose hearts are far from the things of God. Know your heart and determine to always be running toward where you ultimately came from… The God of Genesis 1:1.
